Jamaica Packing List 2026

Packing for Jamaica is simple once you know the climate and what activities you're planning. This guide covers everything you'll need โ€” and a few things tourists commonly overpack or forget.

๐Ÿ‘™Swimwear (Pack More Than You Think)

You'll swim every day in Jamaica โ€” hotel pool, beach, river, waterfall. Bring at least 3 swimsuits so you always have a dry one. Rash guards are recommended for reef snorkelling and long boat trips.

๐Ÿ‘ŸWater Shoes or Old Trainers

Essential if you're visiting Dunn's River Falls โ€” flip flops are not allowed in the falls and will slip on the wet rocks. Any old trainer works. A pair of reef water shoes doubles for beach and waterfall use.

๐ŸงดReef-Safe Sunscreen

Jamaica's UV index is high year-round. Chemical sunscreens are banned at many nature sites and damage coral reefs. Bring mineral reef-safe SPF 50 and reapply every 2 hours. You'll use far more than you expect.

๐Ÿ’ŠStomach Remedies

Eating street food (which you absolutely should) carries a small risk for first-time visitors. Pack ORS sachets and antidiarrheal tablets just in case. Most visitors are fine but it's good peace of mind.

๐Ÿ’ตUSD Cash (Small Bills)

USD is accepted everywhere in tourist Jamaica. Bring $20 and $10 bills rather than $100s โ€” change is sometimes given in JMD. Keep taxi and tip money in a separate, accessible pocket.

๐Ÿ“ฑWaterproof Phone Case

If you're visiting waterfalls or doing water sports, a waterproof case is worth having. Your phone will not survive Dunn's River Falls without protection. Dry bags are available on site but easier to bring your own.

๐ŸงฅLight Layer for AC

Jamaican resorts and restaurants are aggressively air-conditioned. A light cardigan or long-sleeved shirt is useful for dinner or the drive back from a night excursion.

๐ŸšซWhat Not to Bring

Avoid bringing excessive jewellery or expensive watches โ€” these attract attention. Leave your drone at home unless you have a Jamaica CAA permit. Heavy denim jeans and suits are unnecessary โ€” Jamaica is casual and warm year-round.
